MAGIC leadership for growth

This acronym can help you prioritize your time and be a better leader to those around you.

We live in a unique time with so many challenges yet many opportunities. Each day we are faced with more things than we have the time or energy to do. For those in leadership, this is an even greater challenge—not only do our decisions impact us, but they also impact others we lead. So how do we navigate?

Additionally, leaders are often very uncomfortable when they think that with every minute they spend on the wrong thing or with the wrong person, they have cheated the right thing or person out of. And they become even more uncomfortable with how that plays out for each person in the organization or team. How do we decide where to put time, energy, money, and other resources?

With these challenges, it is crucial to ensure we focus on the right things each day, week, month, etc. Doing so not only ensures that our time, energy, money, and resources are going toward the things that truly drive the growth we seek but also supports those who follow us in doing the same.

The acronym MAGIC holds all we need to maximize our chances of the most significant outcomes and levels of success possible.

M: Making Decisions

How do we make decisions, and how do we help those we lead to make decisions? What is the system, process, structure, and framework we use to make them with the best possible outcomes and the least amount of waste? And not let delays or wrong decisions cause us to miss opportunities?

A: Accountability

How do we hold ourselves accountable, and how do we hold those we lead accountable? What is the system, process, structure, and framework we use to ensure everyone on the team does what they are supposed to do? And not get distracted or pulled into things that don’t matter or are not a current priority?

G: Growth

How do we focus on our own growth and the growth of those we lead? What is the system, process, structure, and framework we use to ensure everyone on the team is constantly and continuously growing? And not putting time and energy into things that delay growth?

I: Isolation

How do we ensure that we and those we lead don’t feel alone? What is the system, process, structure, and framework we use to ensure that the feelings inside us keep going and do not hold us back? And not cause additional problems for us to deal with in the future?

C: Change Management

How do we manage change and support those we lead in managing change? What is the system, process, structure, and framework we have to ensure everyone understands reactions to change? And then how to support and manage the change as it plays out around us?

Each part of the MAGIC acronym above is a crucial component of being a good leader in today’s environment. Whether leading your business, your nonprofit, your sports team, your social club, or even your family, these things are a massive part of it today.

This acronym and concept seem simple; however, they are not easy. They require us to be brutally honest about our own behaviors, habits, and attitudes, which is often painful to do. If you genuinely want more and better growth than you have had—and are struggling with these things—find a Business Growth Consultant who can support you and help you maximize your potential.
