Homeowners save with new Edmond brokerage

JMR Realty offers discounted fees for full-service listings in the Oklahoma City area.

During the typical home buying process, traditional real estate commissions hover around 3%. But Edmond-based JMR Realty is helping local homeowners save thousands of dollars on these fees by offering a 1% full-service commission or flat fees altogether.

Experience leads to insight

Owner and broker Jimmy Hughes initially brought his homebuilding experience to the real estate world in an effort to offer Edmond homeowners new options to sell their property.

With experience as a home builder for more than six years, Hughes was eligible to pay an agents’ listing fee of only 1% on his new properties. But when he later decided to sell his own home, he was shocked to discover the discounted listing fee wasn’t available to homeowners in Edmond.

“I felt this was an opportunity to bring a different kind of real estate brokerage to the Oklahoma City area,” Hughes said. “I started JMR Realty to bring low commission selling services so homeowners can have more options in the way they sell and buy property.”

The brokerage offers two listing packages: full-service for a 1% list fee or a flat fee list for $999. The full-service list is the most popular and includes a more hands-on approach, with comparative market analysis, coordination of showing requests, negotiation with the buyer’s agent and representation through closing.

“I want to do everything I can to make sure my customers have an excellent experience working with me and that they feel secure in their buying or selling process,” Hughes said.

The evolution of real estate

The recent rise of technology-driven real estate on sites like Zillow and Realtor.com has changed the landscape of homebuying.

“The real estate industry has told homeowners for years that there is only one way to work with an agent, and that anyone that lowers their prices isn’t worth working with,” Hughes said. “We simply don’t believe it’s necessary to continue charging 3% for listing services since the technology available to us today has made us more efficient.”

Beyond providing listings, JMR Realty also helps customers find and buy their next home. Hughes’ background in insurance and homebuilding allows him to provide additional insights and share concerns about potential issues buyers might find.

Hughes believes you don’t have to sacrifice service to get a full-service realtor, and JMR Realty specifically focuses on their responsiveness and availability for customers.

Looking to the future

JMR Realty recently celebrated its one-year anniversary in February, and their customers saved over $55,000 in commission fees in the first year alone.

“I truly believe in this concept of offering listing options to home sellers, and I am seeing the community respond that they love the options as well,” Hughes said. “The business is growing every month, allowing me to help more families and individuals sell their homes and save money.”

While selling their home, one of JMR Realty’s recent Edmond homeowners saved more than $9,000 in commission fees.

“I know how much this can mean to families that need to make a transition, and this money can be used to pay other expenses or toward their next home,” Hughes said. “I can honestly say I’ve been blessed with really excellent customers and have enjoyed working with all of them. It’s a great feeling to be able to support such good people in our community.”
