Edmond showcases Oklahoma RedBud Awards

On June 29, 2021, Edmond showcased tourism leaders from across Oklahoma in the RedBud Awards.

Edmond was the place to be on June 29th! Tourism leaders from across Oklahoma gathered at The Edmond Conference Center for the Oklahoma Travel Industry Association’s annual RedBud Awards. Edmond Electric stepped up to be the title sponsor, which helped showcase Edmond to new leaders.

Emceed by Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell and Jenifer Reynolds, 37 awards were given in 20 categories. The awards recognize Oklahoma’s top tourism attractions, events, programs, and organizations for outstanding efforts to serve and promote Oklahoma’s tourism industry. “Oklahoma is not just OK; we are a great state to explore, and visitors are impressed by our tourism efforts every day,” said Lt. Governor Pinnell. Open to all Oklahoma tourism entities, the RedBud Awards represent the highest honor given in the Oklahoma tourism industry.

Two local attractions, Edmond Historical Society and Museum and Armstrong Auditorium, were honored. Make plans to visit the museum’s rotating exhibits like Edmond’s African American History and Edmond in the 1980s, as well as the upcoming Blue Hippo Festival on Aug. 6-7th. If you haven’t experienced Armstrong Auditorium’s world-renowned performances, get tickets to Brazilian All Stars on Oct. 27th and Romeros Guitar Quartet on Nov. 11th.

Two of Edmond’s most engaging community events were also awarded top honors. Last year on Nov. 7th, a Mural Festival called Rollin’ Deep brought Edmond’s alleyways to life by inviting local artists to paint 11 murals in one day. Edmond Electric’s Luminance, An Enchanted Stroll, continues to grow and feature the state’s only 3D lighted display.

The RedBud judges agreed that walking through Mitch Park during the holidays is a special way to interact with creative lights including a 30-foot tree, Santa’s sleigh, and words like hope, joy, and love are perfect to selfies (and marriage proposals)!
