The Lookout opens at Kickingbird
The Lookout at Kickingbird is an intriguing space. Nestled on public land and maintained by the city, yet owned and operated as a private business, it defies conventional definitions. The menu boasts quick clubhouse favorites like burgers and hot dogs and elevated options like ribeyes. Set against the backdrop of a beautiful golf course with incredible views and welcomed by their charming little golf ball mascot at the door, The Lookout offers a unique experience.
On paper, these contradictions can make your head spin. In practice, these values don’t clash. Instead, they harmonize to create a totally vibrant, unique space. The Lookout is more than a restaurant; it’s a hub for community beyond membership, golfing, or anything else. It’s a one-of-a-kind place everyone can enjoy.
A new era of Edmond dining
In June 2024, this city-owned restaurant reopened its doors, ushering in a new era of community-focused dining. This revitalized establishment is more than just a place to grab a bite; it’s a communal hub where residents can enjoy a meal, socialize, and feel right at home.
The restaurant, managed by a dedicated team, aims to be the city’s go-to spot.
“Our goal is to cultivate an environment that the whole city wants to be a part of,” explained manager Sydney Lundy. With excellent patios and a menu ranging from casual hamburgers to upscale ribeye steaks, the restaurant offers something for everyone.
Community collaboration
The city’s investment, funded by sales tax dollars, underscores the community’s commitment to creating a welcoming space. “We’re just trying to give it right back and be the place that everyone wants to go to,” the manager added, emphasizing a vision akin to the iconic ‘Cheers’ bar, where regulars are known by name and preference.
Diverse menu

Collaboration with city officials was key in shaping the restaurant’s offerings. While retaining easy, traditional gold course grill item items, the restaurant also introduced more sophisticated options. “This isn’t just a grill. This is where you can sit down and enjoy something as nice as a ribeye,” Lundy said.
The restaurant is busiest during lunch and happy hour, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays. When the weather is pleasant, the patios are filled, and the atmosphere is lively. Sunday brunches have also become a popular draw.
Beyond golfers
Initially frequented by golfers, the restaurant has broadened its appeal as word spread that it is open to all, not just club members. “You can come from Pickleball and have a meal or come from your office and have a meal,” the manager noted, highlighting the inclusive nature of the venue.
A standout on the menu is the grilled shrimp tacos, a personal favorite of the manager, who describes them as hard to beat. The breakfast offerings, including both tacos and burritos, have also been well received.
Beyond dining, the restaurant boasts a thriving event center. Managed by Deidre Casper, the events team has hosted everything from retirement and graduation parties to sports banquets and baby showers. The demand has grown rapidly, much to the delight of the management team.
As the restaurant continues to evolve, it remains committed to serving the community, offering a space where everyone feels welcome and valued.
