Professional Q&A: Amanda Martin
Meet Amanda Martin, a dedicated Calling Officer at The Bankers Bank, who balances her professional career with a fulfilling personal life on her charming property in northeast Edmond. Discover her journey from growing up in Argyle, Texas, to her impactful role in banking, and learn about her passions for fitness, animals, and travel.
Q: Do you live in Edmond, work in Edmond, or both?
A: I live in the very far northeast corner of Edmond – my family bought our house and a few acres last summer—August 2023—and have been busy remodeling and settling in ever since. The property came with four outdoor kitty cats, so with the addition of my husband and I, a one-and-a-half-year-old, and two 100+ pound dogs, we lovingly refer to it as a funny farm. I’m trying to convince my husband to get a pony next. [I’m] kidding, kind of.
We moved from one of the historic neighborhoods in central OKC, so it has been an adjustment to be further away from things, but we are loving it so far! It really feels like home.
Q: Where did you grow up and go to school?
A: I grew up in Argyle, Texas, a small town outside of Denton that isn’t so small anymore. I studied Agricultural Communications and Animal Science at Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma has been home ever since!
I met my husband my senior year of college—he grew up in Weatherford, Oklahoma—and we planted our roots in Oklahoma City, now Edmond.
Q: What did you do before getting involved with your businesses?

A: Before joining The Bankers Bank—TBB—in 2019, I was a Marketing Manager for Communication Federal Credit Union for six years. I mostly did their graphic design, social media, advertising, and event planning.
Prior to that, I worked as the Director of Marketing for the Pinto Horse Association for a few years right out of college. In that position, I was the magazine editor, website/social media manager, sponsor coordinator, and the on-staff photographer at horse shows.
Q: How did you get involved with The Bankers Bank?
A: A close friend of mine works for the Oklahoma Bankers Association and knew that The Bankers Bank was hiring a Calling Officer. She thought it would be a good fit for me and suggested I apply. I’m glad I did, it is a really fun job and has challenged me to learn and grow in new areas while still utilizing my personal skillsets.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The relationships and friendships I’ve been able to make through my job make going to work fun. As a Calling Officer, I’m more or less a Relationship Manager, so I get to travel all over Okla. and visit our customer banks. Every day is a different experience, and usually a fun one! I get a lot of windshield time—meaning I finish a lot of audiobooks—but I also get to try great local restaurants across the state and meet really cool people. So many of my customers have become friends, which is a real blessing.
I also love that TBB allows me to utilize my marketing background and creative side. When I’m not traveling, I design their quarterly newsletter as well as other marketing projects, as needed. It makes for a really great balance of being behind a computer and being customer-facing, or being on the road and working from home. The flexibility my role provides lets me find a true work-life balance and be a better/happier mom and wife.
Q: What’s something you’re passionate about in your personal life?
A: My biggest passions outside my family—husband, one-and-a-half-year-old son, and daughter on the way—are fitness, animals, and travel.
I have been doing CrossFit for ten years at Koda OKC. I’m a retired competitor, but I still love working out and powerlifting several times a week. It makes me feel strong and always puts me in a good head space. As Elle Woods says, “Exercise gives you endorphins and endorphins make you happy!”
I grew up riding and showing horses and picked it back up a few years ago at Cadence Equestrian Center in Edmond. The back of a horse is truly my happy place! I had to stop riding when I got pregnant with my son—and now again with my soon-to-be daughter—but I can’t wait to get back in the saddle again one day. It is a lifelong passion!
To say I love dogs is an understatement! I’ve been a crazy dog lady my entire life. I am just obsessed with them. The bigger and floofier, the better. I have a Bernese Mountain Dog—Kylo—and Great Pyrenees mix—Chloe—who is a rescue. They really love exploring our big wooded lot in East Edmond!
Travel is my other hobby – I’ve been to ten countries, half of the states and counting. Scotland is my favorite destination so far, but I’m happy to go anywhere near or far. I don’t get to travel as often as I used to now that I have kids, but my motto is to always have your next vacation planned.
Q: What do you like about Edmond?
A: Edmond, at least our little corner of northeast Edmond, reminds me of where I grew up. I love driving home after work and seeing horses grazing in pastures and watching deer prance through our yard at sunrise. I like that Starbucks, Crumbl, and Chick-fil-A aren’t too far away, but it’s even better that there are so many local restaurants and stores to visit. Edmond is the perfect mix of a small town and a big city: I see people I know at the grocery store, but everything I could ever need is nearby. It’s truly the best of both worlds!
Q: What is your number one tip for other professionals?
A: Work-life-balance is something that is very important to me. I’m a recovering perfectionist, type A, enneagram 3, over-achiever (yes, I was the oldest daughter). After becoming a mom, I learned that being present and happy when around my family was so much more important than worrying about checking off to-do lists and making perfect plans.
My advice comes from a quote, “You must go on adventures to find out where you truly belong.” So, climb a mountain, book a trip, take a day off and go to the zoo. Whatever it is that brings you joy, do it! It will make you appreciate the other things and help you be happier wherever it is that you belong.
