Bluebird Books opens in downtown Edmond
Bluebird Books held its grand opening on Saturday, October 28, bringing a new chapter of literary delight to the community. The event not only turned a page on the recent closing of a beloved local bookstore but also introduced a fresh space filled with books across genres, cozy reading areas, and sweet trinkets and gifts.
The store, located at 21 S Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034, is the brainchild of Lori Dickinson Black, a figure already well-known in the Edmond business scene. Bluebird Books emerges as her latest endeavor, following the success of Evoke, Twisted Tree Baking Company, and The Lofts at Evoke.
She has joined forces with Maggie Smith and Maggie Murdock Nichols, who are true investment partners in the business. Black expressed her gratitude towards the two investors, stating, “We’re thankful for a few local book lovers who joined the story as investors, making Bluebird Books a women-owned small business.”
The grand opening was a celebration of the community’s resilience and love for the written word. Parents and children indulged in crafting darling bluebird artwork while book enthusiasts perused shelves stocked with an impressive collection for children, adults, and young adults. The opening day, a festive affair with giveaways and decorations, demonstrated the high spirits of Edmonites and the excitement surrounding the new independent bookstore.
Bluebird Books’ commitment to offering a tangible experience resonates well in an era where digital dominates. With a nod to the irreplaceable charm of in-store experiences, the bookstore is set to host family story times and book club meetings, fostering a sense of community and shared passion for literature.
The bookstore’s regular business hours are Tuesday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
As Bluebird Books takes flight, Edmond gains more than just a bookstore—it gains a community space that promises to support book lovers and the book curious of all ages throughout Edmond.
