Growing a business hurts

Growth brings challenges but it is almost always worth it.
Growing boys legs

My two boys—ages 9 and 12—often comment that their legs are hurting when they go to bed. Based on how they describe it, I know that they are experiencing growing pains. I remember being the same age and feeling the same thing. I also recognize their eating and behavioral norms that indicate they’re growing physically. Not to mention the pants and shoes that are too small and the trips to the store to shop for new clothes!

It turns out there are many signs of growth in children. My kids’ growth is exciting to watch, although they are usually frustrated by it. I’m only marginally upset with the bills for food and clothes! I love seeing them mature and progress. Yet as a father, I wish I could make it painless for them. Growth is rarely easy and painless, and I know they must experience the whole process.

Growing a business is not much different. Business growth takes effort, sacrifice, and usually some pain. I have yet to find a business or a professional that has not struggled through growth cycles. I’ve experienced growth as a founder at a start-up and working in a million-dollar corporate enterprise. The scale may be different, but the challenges are there in every business.

Here at Edmond Business, we continue to grow and mature. We are not quite two years old, which is pretty young! I’m excited about our growth but also aware that challenges come with it. Some examples of our growth include updated design and website improvements, more readers, and changes to back-end processes. We made all these changes to help us further our mission to inform, educate, and uplift Edmond area businesses and business people that live in the Edmond area.

The City of Edmond’s motto is “A Great Place To Grow.” That rings true for my family and my businesses. It’s also great to share news of others growing in Edmond. Almost every month, we share stories of businesses growing, expanding, and moving to Edmond. I personally love seeing when someone new to Edmond or Edmond Business shares or comments on a story. There’s fulfillment in growth, even when it hurts!

Thank you for your continued support as we grow together!
